By Jessica O’Hara-HollandPosted November 14, 2018 10:11:14A homeless man from south-east Victoria has been described as “one of the nicest people I’ve ever met”.
The homeless man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody by police in Melbourne’s west on Thursday.
The man, aged in his 40s, was found with what appeared to be a single cigarette, a cigarette lighter and some rubbish.
“It’s just one cigarette and some other rubbish, so I just thought, ‘What is he doing with that?'”
He’s obviously been on the street for a few weeks,” Detective Inspector Matthew Burchill said.
The homeless woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
Detective Inspector Burchil said the man was “very distressed” and “extremely frightened”.”
I’ve seen him on the footpath in a park and he would just stand there,” he said.”
The last time I saw him was in a footpath and he was very distressed.
“He was asking for a cigarette, and he had a few other items.”
“It was really sad because he’d been homeless for a while.”
He was charged with drug trafficking and possession of prohibited items.
