What if there’s nothing else on the menu?
That’s what a pizza chef is going to be facing as the NHL’s annual pizza tournament rolls on.
The winner of the tournament will earn $500,000 and will have the opportunity to face the winner of last year’s tournament, a $1.5 million winner, and a $750,000 winner.
The NHL’s Pizza Challenge will begin at 5 p.m.
ET on Thursday, March 18, in New Jersey and will last until April 9.
The first winner will receive $1 million, with the $750k winner getting $2 million.
The tournament will be played in the New Jersey Convention Center and is a non-sporting event.
The teams have agreed to not have any food items on the ice.
The rules of the competition are simple: players must wear their team jerseys with a red, white and blue “Pizza Challenge” logo on the chest and shoulder pads, and must eat their pizza, which can be any kind of pizza, to qualify for the tournament.
The player with the most points wins.
The winning team will be awarded $500 per player.
It’s not just about pizza, though.
The team with the fewest points gets $25,000.
The next two teams with the same number of points will split $50,000, the third and fourth teams with no points get $25 each and the fifth team with no money gets $1,000 apiece.
The winner will be announced by a live stream on NHL Network, followed by an interview on the NHL Network’s Hockey Night in Canada.
It is a pre-show for the televised event.
