5:57 PM ET Tue, 16 Feb 2017 18:57:22 A new Fox channel has launched in the midst of a national crisis of confidence in television news, with a series of stories questioning whether the nation’s top TV news anchor has become a partisan and biased reporter.
The new channel, The First 100 Days, will feature a wide range of voices and features a wide array of stories, from the most controversial topics to the most intimate, according to a preview of the channel.
The channel is being produced by The News Corp. group and is the brainchild of former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly.
Fox News Channel President Roger Ailes is also a producer.
The network is expected to premiere in spring 2017, a time when President Donald Trump is under pressure to mend ties with Fox News and to try to return the network to its prime-time programming and ratings.
The news channel is part of a broader effort to rebuild the news business by taking the business away from cable news, the cable networks and the networks that are owned by News Corp., Ailes and other media executives, and placing it squarely in the hands of a small group of news executives who control the channel’s revenue.
In its preview, The New York Times said the channel will have “a mix of voices from outside the news industry and the news media.”
The channel will also be produced in part by Ailes, who has been accused of sexual harassment and assault, and other former Fox colleagues, including Megyn Kelley, a former anchor who quit after her firing in 2017.
Kelly’s story has been the most detailed of the many stories that have emerged in recent weeks, in part because she is a woman and also because of the public’s outrage.
Fox has made Kelly its top news anchor.
It is also part of its effort to turn The First-100-Days into a profitable venture, and has promised that its channel will become “the most trusted source of news and information on cable, social media and the internet.”
But the backlash to Kelly’s firing was swift.
Kelly is the first female anchor at a major broadcast network, and she has also become the subject of a powerful sexual harassment allegation against him.
She was fired in February 2018, but has not been publicly accused of misconduct.
She has said she has never met Ailes.
Ailes has denied any wrongdoing and said Kelly was fired for failing to maintain a high level of integrity at Fox.
“We are proud to have been a Fox News channel for over a century, and we will continue to serve our viewers with the highest quality and the most important news and stories,” Ailes said in a statement.
Fox did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Kelly has been criticized for her handling of sexual misconduct allegations, but her critics have also complained that she is too cozy with Fox’s president, and for appearing too close to Trump.
Kelly and her husband, longtime Fox anchor Brian Kilmeade, have been married for 40 years, and the couple has four children, including one who is a child of Fox executives.
The couple have also been critical of Trump and his supporters in recent months, and have appeared on Fox News at times to denounce the president.
Fox is not the only news channel to take a chance on a female anchor, and Kelly’s new role will be one of several opportunities for female journalists in the newsrooms.
Fox will have more than 300 full-time news anchors, according the website Axios, and will also include more than 150 full-timers in television and digital newsrooms, according Axios.
In January, CNN announced it would launch a new TV news channel, CNN Newsroom, with two female anchors and two women journalists.
