A new report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows how you can make your very own pizza at a fraction of the cost of a commercial pizza, and with the added bonus of having access to fresh, local ingredients.
“Pizza is the number one food of choice in the United States,” said Jim Sperling, USDA Assistant Secretary for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
“This report is designed to help inform the public about how to make pizza at your own home.”
Sperling said the report, called Pizza Hut’s Pizzeria: Your Home-Made Pizza: From Pizza to Pizza Hut: is designed for home-based home cooks who want to make the kind of pizza that people like to eat.
It includes the basics of a pizza oven and how to create a homemade pie crust, how to prepare it, and the recipes for three homemade pizza doughs and two homemade pizza sauces.
Pizza Hut’s Pizza Hut, the flagship restaurant in the chain, has been on a mission to increase sales of the pizza by 30 percent over the last five years.
“We have always had the utmost respect for our customers and their love for pizza, but they have never known us to put the health and happiness of our customers ahead of the health of our employees,” said Spering.
The report shows that home-made pizza can be done in just a few steps.

Then you can mix up the ingredients of your pizza sauce and the topplings, such as mozzetta, pepperoni, and fresh mozzerella.
